Sales of flagship smartphones over 80 thousand rubles increased almost 3 times in the third quarter of 2023, Kommersant reports, citing MTS data.

In the third quarter of this year, MTS sold 400 thousand such smartphones worth 46 billion rubles, a year earlier – 140 thousand devices worth 14 billion rubles.

The growth may be due to changes in the exchange rate, which prompted Russians to buy expensive smartphones.

In recovery: the consequences of the doubling of iPhone sales this summer.

In July – August, the growth was associated with the expectation of a further rise in the dollar exchange rate, in September – with the release of the iPhone 15 and at the same time with continued interest in the iPhone 14.

Rasima Lemberansky, restoration director:

In total, in the third quarter of 2023, 8.1 million smartphones were sold for 181 billion rubles. This is 44% more in unit terms than in the same period last year. In terms of monetary growth, it turned out to be 66%; in terms of other income, the iPhone is in the lead (29% of all sales). [Коммерсантъ]
