The American brokerage company Interactive Brokers has begun closing accounts of Russian users, Forbes has learned. The company explains these decisions by the low cost of assets and the need for additional controls.

The head of Finama’s customer service development department, Dmitry Lesnov, also told the publication that Russian users were having problems.
Additionally, Interactive Brokers Telegram chat users are also complaining about forced account closures.
The broker justifies the decision with “recent analysis, the low value of the assets and the need to carry out additional controls.”
“This measurement is determined in part by your country of residence and account characteristics,” the broker said.
Services still available to Russian users include account closure or reduction. You will not be able to increase your account nor will you be able to create a new one.
Lesnov, for his part, noted that the company closes accounts with little activity.
Following the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine in 2022, Interactive Brokers stopped accepting rubles to fund accounts. The brokerage firm also made it impossible for Russian clients to buy shares of EU companies.
