Deputy Chairman of the Council for the Development of the Digital Economy under the Soviet Federation, Senator Artem Sheikin, asked the Ministry of Digital Development to prohibit the placement of law-breaking VPN services in RuStore.

Sheikin has already sent a corresponding request to Minister Maksut Shadayev.

Considering that RuStore occupies the position of a Russian online application store for mobile devices, developed to support the development of communication channels and mass communications in the Russian Federation, I ask you to conduct an internal review and the opportunity to establish criteria for placing VPN services in the specified store. It seems that one of the main requirements for their placement should be compliance with the legislation of the Russian Federation regarding non-provision of access to the register of prohibited information.

The senator also explained that, in accordance with the laws of Russia, the criterion for inclusion in the list of prohibited items is “the availability of information that provides the possibility of gaining access, including the transfer of data transmission programs for electronic computers, to information resources and (or) information and telecommunication networks, access this is limited on the territory of the Russian Federation.” [ТАСС]
