But Apple never seriously considered the possibility, according to Mikhail Parakhin, Microsoft’s head of advertising and web services.
Instead, the company used Bing as a trading tool with Google to get better commission deals.
Apple has partnered with Google since 2003, using Google as the primary search engine in its Safari browser. In return, Cupertino residents receive a portion of the advertising revenue.
According to the US Department of Justice, such transactions allowed Google to strengthen its monopoly position in the Internet search market.
Parakhin, who moved from Yandex to Microsoft in 2019, claims that the negotiations with Apple in 2021 regarding the transition to Bing did not yield results. In his opinion, Bing has always been just a “bargaining chip” for Apple in negotiations with Google.
