In the VisionOS 4 beta code, 9to5Mac found a notification warning users about sound quality when you connect the Vision Pro to any wireless headphones other than the new AirPods Pro 2 with a USB-C charging case.
The message warns: “This device is not optimized for Apple Vision Pro and may affect audio quality due to increased latency.” This warning applies to other AirPods models and even Beats headphones, as only the AirPods Pro 2 2023 version supports lossless audio.
Apple executives said that the updated AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C uses an updated H2 chip operating at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies. This allows higher quality audio to be transmitted with less delay. The decision to limit lossless audio transmission to the Vision Pro headset stems from the need to use a lower frequency to maintain proximity to the device for optimal performance.
While AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C charging cases are already available, the Vision Pro headset is expected to launch in the US in early 2024.
