Three years ago, a seemingly very useful feature appeared in iOS 14 and macOS Big Sur. AirPods and some Beats models have learned to automatically switch between your Apple devices.
The idea was bright: how do you use such headphones and connections.
It quickly became clear that instead of “magic” and “amazing,” Apple only made life more difficult for active users of several of its gadgets at the same time.
As a result, many turned off the feature and forgot about its existence. But I’ve been waiting for the promised three years. Perhaps that is why it was only in the recently released iOS 17 and macOS that Sonoma remembered the unfinished function and corrected its operation.
Improvements to the AirPods auto-connect feature were mentioned at the WWDC presentation over the summer. What exactly has changed is unknown. But I can say one thing for sure.
Now auto switching can be enabled again. I returned it on all my devices a week ago and periodically checked that it was working correctly.
So far, the headphones have never confused the devices, have not started running away from the user out of the blue, and generally do not frustrate. It seems like Apple has really fixed everything.
How to enable (or disable) AirPods switching charges
▸ Connect headphones. This can be quickly done by opening the control center (the curtain with all sorts of buttons) and pressing the button on the “radar” icon in the upper lower widget of the music player. Your AirPods or Beats will appear there.
▸ Go to the application Settings -> Bluetooth. Click on the blue “i” icon next to your headphones.
▸ Scroll down the window that opens and select Connect. to this iPhone.
▸ Select “Auto” for the enable function or “Last connection to iPhone/iPad” for her exit.
How to disable switching on Mac:
▹ open System Settings -> Bluetooth. Find your AirPods in the list.
▹ Click on the icon next to your AirPods “I”.
▹ Opposite the section Connect to this Mac choose Automatically.
It’s a pity, of course, that we couldn’t immediately make the feature normal – but better late than never.
