The management company Unirest (Rostic’s and KFC brands in Russia) is facing a shortage of chicken meat on the Russian market. The shortage is negatively impacting the country’s entire restaurant industry. The problem is confirmed by the statements of a representative of the Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers of Russia and figures from Rosstat.

Rostic’s and KFC complained about the shortage of chicken meat in Russia

“Now on the Russian market all consumers of chicken meat are facing a difficult situation, including its shortage, and we are no exception,” RBC Unirest press service quotes RIA Novosti.

The director of FRiO, Igor Bukharov, confirms the current difficulties: “We have problems… There are not enough staff on poultry farms, there are disruptions in supply chains, increased costs of feed and costs.”

The federation representative is optimistic, but his argument in favor of stabilizing the situation is the following: “When there is a deficit, it is replenished after a while.”

The presence of the problem is also confirmed by Rosstat figures: during the week from October 3 to 9, according to the organization’s calculations, chicken meat prices in Russia increased by 1.26%. This means that growth has accelerated: the previous week it was 1.01%.

In total, since the beginning of the year, prices have increased by 26%, and Kommersant noted a decrease in production volumes already in the summer, citing among the reasons for this phenomenon: bird flu in the Moscow region and a drop in indicators in the Voronezh and Kursk regions, bordering Ukraine.

Forbes then noted the record prices for chicken meat – 197.9 rubles. per 1 kg of chilled and frozen meat (+6.4% annually).
