According to scientists, this coating can significantly increase the service life of important parts of the hot path of engines, including rockets.
A special feature of the development is the presence of two layers within each “scale”: the nanostructured outer layer increases the strength, and the inner submicron layer reduces the thermal conductivity of the material and compensates for temperature and mechanical stress.
These innovative coating properties help protect the interior surfaces of nozzles and combustion chambers, as well as other important components of rocket and aircraft engines.
The new development could lead to a significant extension of engine life and increased reliability under extreme load conditions.
