If your water is not very hard, the lime problem can be solved by adding special products. In most cases, a good powder (to which chemically active elements are added) will be sufficient. If such powders are not suitable, try a separate product in capsule or powder form, such as Calgon or Topperr.

Limescale is also removed using organic acids. For example, vinegar, lemon or formic. A more or less safe option is lemon. However, it only works at a temperature of about 90 degrees Celsius, and if the dosage is incorrect (you should not use more than 100 g), you can damage the elements of the machine.

Mineral acids cannot be used in their pure form. Otherwise, you will most likely damage the internal parts of the washing machine.

The only inorganic acid you can try is sulfamic acid. It is specially designed for cleaning tubular electric heaters from scale.

Another way to protect your washing machine from limescale is to soften the water. This can be done in two ways. In the first case, a polyphosphate filter is used. The cost of such a nozzle is 350-500 rubles. The filling will last 1-2 years and then you will only need to replace it. A “rotten” smell may come from the tank due to added phosphates. However, to avoid this, you can run the washing machine empty every week in the “Cotton 90” mode with the addition of washing powder.

A more expensive solution is the ion exchange filter. In this way, you can supply softened water to other household appliances. For example, the dishwasher.
