The federal project is currently in the approval phase and represents a next-generation space security system.
The Milky Way system will have several key features, including openness, accuracy, and global coverage. It will be equipped with new ground-based radio and radar stations, as well as special spacecraft equipped with optical systems.
The main mission of the system is to improve the understanding of the man-made situation in space. It will also monitor and predict “space weather.” Another important function will be to warn about dangerous celestial bodies such as asteroids and comets, the State Corporation’s press service added.
