By 2023, according to Roskomnadzor protocols, courts imposed fines worth 3.7 million rubles in cases of personal data leaks. Interfax writes about this with reference to the head of the RKN for the protection of the rights of data subjects, Yuri Kontemirov.
Since the beginning of the year, the department has developed 122 such protocols. RKN carried out 39 unscheduled inspections, in 37 cases the existence of leaks was confirmed. According to Kontemirov, in each incident the operators whose actions were identified violations that led to leaks were held responsible.
At the same time, the RKN representative indicated that companies have become more aware of security problems since changes were made to the personal data law, which requires operators to inform RKN about the leak, its causes and measures to prevent and eliminate leakage. consequences.
Kontemirov said that in 2023 the department reviewed about 5.8 thousand websites. 4 thousand of them had deviations from the requirements of the law.
Previously, authorities were thinking about increasing liability for the leak of personal data. In 2022, the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev, proposed imposing turnover fines on companies committing such incidents. In the summer of 2023, a corresponding bill was sent to Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
As MP Alexander Khinshtein reported last week, the authors of the initiative are still waiting for a response to the bill.
Last week, RKN announced the completion of an inspection of MTS bank in case of a breach of customer data and confirmed the fact of such an incident. Now the organization faces a fine.
