Magnit launches a pilot project to sell fast food in convenience stores. French fries, sandwiches, wings and pizza are now offered in several dozen supermarkets in Moscow and St. Petersburg. If the experiment is successful, the format will be expanded. This was reported by the retailer’s press service.
Magnit’s fast food assortment now consists of approximately 15 items. In addition to sandwiches and fries, the menu includes cheese sticks, onion rings, chicken tenders, nuggets and wings.
The establishments that launched the fast food format are equipped with deep fryers and convection ovens, and the dishes are prepared on the spot in front of the customer. Fast food is presented in more than 30 stores in Moscow and St. Petersburg, located in high-traffic places.
The company explained that the first results of the project showed the existence of a demand for said service among network buyers. The addition of a line of quick snack dishes generated sales growth in the ready-to-eat category between 3% and 7%.
According to the deputy general director and director of the Magnit retail chain, Ruslan Ismailov, the company wants to try to develop in niches where space was free after the departure of foreign players.
In September, Magnit opened a cheese factory in one of its hypermarkets, Magnit Extra. And in spring, the media wrote that the retailer was going to open a market with non-food products.
