The study, which surveyed 1,484 warehouse workers in 42 states, found that 69% of respondents had to take unpaid leave to recover from on-the-job injury or fatigue.

The report highlighted that 41% of employees reported being injured while working in Amazon warehouses; that figure rose to 51% among those with more than three years of experience at the company. The findings show that injuries and pain in Amazon workplaces are much more common than previously thought.

The findings come after the US Department of Labor’s OSHA accused Amazon of allegedly exposing workers to ergonomic hazards at several of the company’s facilities.

Amazon responded by calling the report a social survey conducted by advocacy groups and recommending that the public examine its annual safety data submissions to OSHA.
