The National System of Payment Cards (NSCP) and Rostelecom subsidiary Open Mobile Platform (OMP) are developing SBPay for the Russian Aurora operating system. This will be the first paid application for the Russian operating system.

In Russia they are developing SBPay for the national Aurora operating system.

The system is currently running in test mode. A full release to customers should occur with the release of Aurora version 5.0 in December. “SBPay” for Aurora can be downloaded from the Rustore store, which should also launch before the end of 2023, Vedomosti has learned.

There are not many devices based on the domestic operating system so far: Russian vendors F+ tech, Yadro and Aquarius have smartphones and tablets with Aurora. During its existence, more than half a million mobile devices were produced, said Kirill Menshov, senior vice president of information technology at Rostelecom.

According to plans, the national mobile ecosystem with Aurora operating system should be created by 2030. It will be created based on Android. Rostelecom estimated the cost of the project, which also involves the production of 70 million mobile devices for all market segments, at 480 billion rubles.

In January 2023, the Ministry of Digital Development excluded the Aurora operating system budget from the digital transformation program. The money was supposed to be used to develop mobile services for Aurora and adapt partners’ devices: mobile antivirus software, office software and other services.
