Now scientists claim that, based on all known data about horses, they had no idea that these animals participated in races. Moreover, winning a race does not mean much for the horse itself. Eventually the winners may be whipped more often than others while running. In other words, horses have little intrinsic benefit to motivate them to run faster.

Running is a typical behavior of horses. They run voluntarily in groups whenever they have the opportunity. Even without jockeys. There are also many reasons to suggest that horses do not develop the desire to “win” during group galloping.

Horses are social animals. In the wild, they synchronize their movements with other horses in their group to minimize the impact of predators on them. And in this case, the “victory” that came first can even negatively affect the fate of the animal.

Bounces depend on two factors. This is the horse’s innate ability to synchronize with other horses and the ability to ignore this desire in response to the jockey’s signals during the race.

Racehorses in general most likely have no idea that they are competing. But they still know what it means to compete, what they have to do in this process and what can happen. A horse’s victory is likely determined by a combination of three factors: the horse’s natural abilities, its physical training, and the jockey’s skills.
