The average monthly turnover of companies in the field of online education increased by 29% in 2023 compared to last year. The total turnover of the online school market in November this year already exceeded the total figure for 2022 by 30 billion rubles, and at the end of December the difference will increase even further. Today, the network’s educational centers have collectively earned 125 billion rubles in 10 months, and the figures for October (15.6 billion rubles) exceed those of last year by 71%.

Professional courses have become the most popular niche in online education

These data were shared with RB.RU by representatives of the Tochka bank for entrepreneurs and businesses and the platform for launching, selling and conducting online courses GetCourse. It was they who carried out a study of the online education market in 2023 (since the bank has 10 thousand companies of this profile among its clients, and the platform brings together more than 17 thousand online schools) and also discovered that:

  • Since 2021, the growth of new companies in the Education segment (specifically OKVED 85.41 – Additional education for children and adults) has amounted to 39% (data from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities),
  • At the end of October 2022, the total turnover of schools on GetCourse since January was 76 billion rubles, and in 2023 – 125 billion rubles (i.e. increased by 49 billion rubles), and from this in October alone, 15.6 billion rubles.
  • In 2022, the average monthly turnover of companies was 200 thousand rubles, in 2023 – 258.28 thousand rubles (i.e. an increase of 29%),
  • At the same time, entrepreneurs noted a trend towards “fading seasonality” – market participants are happy about this after a notable decline in the post-Covid years 2021-2022. The demand for training continues again throughout the year,
  • Among the leaders in increasing turnover are educational technology entrepreneurs from the Urals (+28.55%), the Southern Federal District (+25.40%) and the North-Western Federal District (+23%).
  • Of the 12 key educational niches analyzed and presented on GetCourse, the leader was the “Profession” niche (manicure, massage, accounting, programming, design, SMM, coaching, etc.): its turnover in October exceeded 2.5 billion of rubles, that is, 69% more than for the same period in 2022,
  • Turnover in other popular niches: “Health” (including self-medication, face reshaping, osteopathy, massage, nutrition, etc.), “Psychology” (including in the context of entrepreneurship) and “Income” (including in online and in the markets). ) — in October it exceeded 1.3 billion rubles.
  • Also among the ten most popular niches were “Esoteric” ​​(904 million rubles), “Financial education” (739 million rubles), “Hobbies” (625 million rubles), “Fitness” (412 million rubles ), “Relationships” (244 million rubles), “Astrology” (195 million rubles), “Drawing” (135 million rubles) and “Languages” (131 million rubles).

The “Profession” niche contains courses in areas that provide students with the opportunity to acquire the skills necessary for professional activity that will allow them to work as an employee or self-employed. The most popular areas in this niche are projects in the field of coaching.

It is noteworthy that the maximum dynamics among all niches was shown by the “Psychology” niche, which has a topic close to the leader of vocational education – coaching: income in it for 10 months of this year is more than 100% higher than in the same period in 2022.
