Russian State Duma deputy Anton Gorelkin proposed an unusual idea to reduce wear and tear on cellular equipment. His proposal is to reduce the amount of traffic consumed by eliminating unrestricted access to YouTube. According to the deputy, the transportation of equipment from the regions to Moscow creates problems in regions where it is necessary to urgently update cellular networks.

Gorelkin argues that mobile operators must now take measures to reduce wear and tear on equipment, in particular, reduce the amount of traffic consumed by canceling unlimited access to YouTube. According to their estimates, the share of traffic generated by video hosting varies between 30% and 50%. The deputy expresses confidence that the Federal Antimonopoly Service will not object to such an agreement between market participants, which would count traffic from YouTube in the same way as Russian services.
