Finland has banned entry into the country from Russia by bicycle at three checkpoints due to the presence of illegal immigrants. This was announced by the deputy head of the border service of Southeast Finland, Jukka Lukkari, reports the Yle agency.

Finland has banned entry to the country from Russia by bicycle

“There have been about 30 cases in the last week. This is clearly a growing phenomenon,” he said, adding that the situation at the border is generally calm and the number of unauthorized crossings has not changed.

According to Luccari, those who entered, in most cases using Russia as a transit country, did not have the necessary documents, the bicycles often did not meet the technical requirements, for example, there were no special lights and some people were not wearing helmets.

On November 11, readers of the St. Petersburg publication Fontanka reported that Finland no longer admits cyclists from the Russian Federation. RIA Novosti, citing a border guard officer at the Vaalimaa checkpoint, wrote that the measure was introduced on November 9 and the ban applies to the entire southeastern district of the country.

On September 16, Finland officially announced its decision to ban the entry of cars with Russian license plates. An exception was made for EU citizens and their entourage, employees of diplomatic missions and those traveling to the country for humanitarian reasons. Russian vehicles already in the country will have to leave until mid-March 2024.
