Amazon Web Services has opened an office complex in the 1901 De Copel prison in the Netherlands. Workplaces for IT specialists were located in cells converted into offices.
One of the company’s employees posted a video on X (formerly Twitter) with an overview of the complex.
“Amazon’s new office in the Netherlands is an old prison” wrote He.
The posted video shows the common area of the building with a vaulted ceiling, as well as numerous chamber doors along the wall with the AWS logo, which now serve as an entrance to the office space.
Since 2016, the Copel building has been used as a shelter for Syrian refugees. Amazon’s workspace was located on the third floor. Common tables have been installed for some employees.
In the summer, Amazon stopped operating its Amazon Appstore in China. The company did not indicate the reason for this decision.
