Target announced a new update that will allow you to delete your Threads account without losing Instagram.. The tech company has announced the ability to deactivate or delete your profile from its new social network without affecting your Instagram account. This has been one of the most requested features by users since its launch in July.

Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, posted two of the biggest news coming to Threads today. The first one allows deactivate or delete your account yourself straight from the application. To access it, you just need to tap the top menu and select the option Check and within it choose Deactivate or delete a profile.

A new screen will open, offering two options: deactivate or delete the Threads profile. The first is similar to what we find on Instagram or Facebook and consists of temporarily blocking your account. All your posts or interactions with other profiles will be hidden until you log in again.

If you decide to delete your profile, all your posts, likes and subscribers will be deleted forever. Meta offers a 30-day grace period, so if you change your mind and want to keep your account, simply log in to confirm the cancellation. If you delete your Topics profile, you will have to wait 90 days to register again with the same Instagram account.

An important observation is that This process does not work in reverse.. Your Threads profile is managed by your Instagram account, so deleting it will delete your data on both platforms.

In addition to the option of deleting your Threads profile, Adam Mosseri has confirmed that he has already done so. you can disable the appearance of your themes outside the application. In an attempt to expand the reach of its new social network, Meta allowed posts from accounts with public Threads profiles to appear on Instagram and Facebook. This caused irritation for many users as the only way to avoid this was to change their profile to private.

“We’ve heard feedback that you want more control over the process, so we’re implementing an opt-out option outside of Threads,” Mosseri said. To activate it you just need to access ParameterConfidentialitySuggest posts in other apps. Inside you will find two fields so that they do not appear on Instagram and Facebook.

The head of Instagram confirmed that they will continue to work on new Threads options and asked the community to write in their suggestions. Despite the decline in the number of users, Meta has not stopped implementing functions on its social network. Mark Zuckerberg realizes that reaching 1 billion users will take time and the only way to convince people is to offer a reliable platform.

Adam Mosseri admitted that Threads’ long-term goal is to become a platform de facto for online conversations. The head of Instagram said that the only way to achieve this is to focus on improving the experience and not be distracted by hype cycle. “Sometimes Threads is great in the eyes of the world, sometimes it’s a failure. The truth is always somewhere in the middle,” he said.

A few weeks ago they announced the launch of a theme editing button. Unlike Twitter (X), this option is free and can be used within the first five minutes of posting.
