I’ve been using the iPhone 15 Pro for more than a month now, and I’ve been using iOS 17 since last summer, having tested all the beta and stable versions of external systems.

At this time, give preference to the main points that you don’t like at all about these new products. In the case of iOS 17, even upgrading the hardware from 14 Pro to 15 Pro did not help.

I’ll say right away: this is exclusively my opinion, it may not coincide with yours, some nit-picking is not so isolated, but, subjectively, these problems manifest themselves.

First with iPhone 15 Pro.

1. Action button stupid

Now Apple is already actively testing iOS 17.2, but even in the new version of the embedded system there is no possibility of installation on Action button several functions at once. Yes, before it was generally a silent mode lever, but now the company has upgraded it and made it a multifunctional keyboard.

Why not give the opportunity then? program it differently? For example, do not only high speed, but also double and triple. At the single level, you just need to remind you which option you “hung” on the button. For what?

Ideally, this opportunity can be add a large number of different automations. And you don’t want to launch Siri or the reset button every time to use them.

Why, for example, can’t I still make myself both a live translator and a VPN activator, and also add Alice to control my smart home? Three different types of clicks, but all in one place, saving time.

2. Heats up from any sneeze.

I declare with full responsibility. The A17 Pro is the hottest processor Apple has created in recent years. The transition to a 3nm process technology did not improve the situation.

iPhone 15 Pro gets hot even in the most basic tasks. I can sit in Safari for 10 minutes, scroll through news or articles, and the body of the smartphone will already become warm. Even while watching a video on YouTube, it heats up like no other iPhone has done before.

While I was writing this note, the back panel managed to heat up to an almost unpleasant state. I don’t want to talk about games at all – the iPhone doesn’t overheat, but the body temperature rises noticeably, and it cools down perfectly.

3. No 5x optical zoom

In recent years, Apple has moved to limit the division of iPhones into two categories: lower-end versions and flagships. We have already come to terms with this, so a hierarchy is necessary.

But what irritates me personally is that this year Apple also decided to separate the Pro and Pro Max models. They used to be different only batteries and monitor sizeand now the camera in the “older” version has been made better, including 5x optical zoom.

Why should I buy myself a $200 smartphone just for one (!!) feature? The format of 6.7-inch “shovels” is inconvenient for me; I feel uncomfortable using them. So what now, do I need to reduce the comfort of the additional function? In general, such impudence really blows my mind.

4. Charging is still slow, even though it’s USB-C

This year, Apple added a USB-C port to iPhones, which opens up new possibilities for data transfer and charging. However, in the second case, the company decided not to change anything and leave support. 27-watt chargerjust like with Lightning.

At the same time, the Cupertino team with the transition to USB-C could provide support for more powerful power adapters.

I understand that in this way they take care of keeping the battery in good condition for a longer period. However, many iPhone owners change them once a year, including me. So why not then add, for example, a separate toggle switch to unlock the charging power to enable my presence in the outlet.

In some cases, you can urgently charge your iPhone in 15-20 minutes, and by this time you would like to have about 50% charge.

And this also takes into account the fact that this iPhone holds a charge no better than the iPhone 14 Pro. It uses up the accumulated electricity very quickly.

Now let’s move on to iOS 17.

5. Applications are unstable

What a pity that there is still no horizontal mode

Stability is not about iOS 17. It works well all over the world, all animations are smooth, everything loads quite quickly. But I periodically see how this or that application can simply freeze exactly in place or even fly out on the desktop.

This applies to both staff programs and participation. Just yesterday I created a new note in a similar application, and a keyboard window opened without buttons, and then the application completely froze. Three restarts helped, not even just one.

Or, Telegram may occasionally crash when adding photos to a message. It just throws it onto the home screen without errors and that’s it. And it may also not restart the first time.

YouTube can also crash when listening to a video in the background after half an hour of work. Or maybe it won’t fly. If we get lucky.

There are a lot of little things like this, and they make you nervous even against the generally good background of the work of embedded systems.

6. Endless keyboard fixes.

iOS 17 has changed how the buttons work. Thanks to AI, it has become better at determining what you want to write.

However, completely stupid autocorrects constantly appear that are not constructed from the mind at all. For example, “at” is often changed to “about” or “By/by” is replaced by “on”. This can only be solved by sufficiently setting up autocorrect in the menu. Settings -> General -> Keyboard -> Text replacement.

The situation is not getting better with each new generation of iOS, and there is no telling when it will change.

What annoys you about iOS 17 and iPhone 15?
