The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of the Russian Federation considered that the telecommunications operator Megafon had violated antimonopoly legislation due to the increase in tariffs for communication services.
“The operator increased the rates for communication services for more than 8.2 million subscribers by an average of 10.24% and did not provide the service with sufficient reasons for the increase,” the antitrust authority said in a statement.
The FAS will determine the amount of the fine during the administrative investigation.
The antitrust authority also reported that at the commission meeting, the telecommunications operator stated that it would reduce the unjustifiably increased rates for its services until February 15, 2024.
The FAS opened a case against the operator Megafon for increasing rates for communication services in September. Then the company justified this by increasing costs, and the department, in turn, pointed to the financial statements of PJSC Megafon, on the basis of which the operator significantly reduced costs and increased net profit.
