Yandex plans to double its fleet of delivery robots (from 130 to 260 in 2024) and start renting them. A Yandex representative reported this to RB.RU.
The company will rent robots to other organizations using a “last mile” delivery service model, to the end consumer up to two kilometers away.
Yandex Food and Lavka will also expand robot delivery.
Yandex is responsible for technical support, warranty service and the creation of high-precision maps that allow robots to navigate the city.
The company is currently discussing the introduction of delivery robots in large supermarket chains, cafes and fast food restaurants.
Yandex estimates that approximately 15 delivery robots are enough to deliver food and groceries in a residential area with a population of five thousand people.
Other potential Yandex clients include hotels and shops, residential complexes, university campuses and creative groups.
“We are working to ensure that, by 2025, the cost of robotic delivery will be no more or less than the cost of conventional delivery. To do this, the robocourier’s load factor must be at least 80%, that is, between 12 and 15 deliveries per day,” the company said in a statement.
Yandex launched delivery robots in 2019. They work in Moscow, Innopolis, in the Rosa Khutor and Krasnaya Polyana resorts, as well as in the city of Murino in the Leningrad Region. The software and most of the components of the robot were developed by Yandex itself.
