Yandex analysts have discovered a vulnerability in the new version of iOS 17 that poses a threat to iPhone owners. According to experts, the function of creating a contact card will allow scammers to impersonate police officers or bank employees.

Yandex warned of a vulnerability in iOS 17 that could be exploited by scammers

As Kommersant reports, we are talking about the user’s ability to choose an image and name that owners of other iPhones will see when making a call. With their help, attackers can imitate calls from bank security or government officials, deceiving citizens.

Yandex representatives have already reported the problem to Apple and asked them to fix the vulnerability. The director of the Internet search company, Igor Bederov, in conversation with Kommersant, noted that the problem can be solved “in a small number of days, if not hours.”

At the same time, Renat Grishin, editor-in-chief of AppleInsider.ru, said that he considers the problem implausible, since to implement the scheme it is necessary to call from the iPhone, while attackers rarely make calls manually.

“All the big scammers still work through call centers; There are special technological programs that answer calls. So far this seems like a purely theoretical possibility,” Grishin said.
