Wildberries spoke about the development of the case for the theft of 385 million rubles from the site in 2021: nine were convicted, five were charged, three suspects died and several more left Russia. A representative of the company reported this to RBC.
Scammers took advantage of the vulnerability in the market’s payment system to steal money. They registered on Wildberries as sellers, displayed non-existent products and then attempted to pay for orders using false details. The retailer transferred funds to the seller as a reward for a successful transaction.
The company noted that the investigation is ongoing and that all suspects have been identified. All those convicted will have to pay compensation.
