The main reason why our skin darkens from sunlight is melanin. Ultraviolet light stimulates the production of melanin in skin cells. Darkening of the skin is protection from the harmful effects of the sun on the body. And the more ultraviolet light hits the skin, the more melanin is produced and the darker the skin becomes.
Moreover, clothes and hair are also “inanimate” objects. They also don’t have any UV protection, so they fade easily.
