Experts have noticed a malicious component associated with pirated copies of GTA, Assassins Creed and The Sims 4 games. The viruses masquerading as VPNs were netPlus, which had 1 million downloads, netSave, and netWin, which had 500 thousand installations each. Moreover, operators mostly attack Russian users: the majority of infections were discovered in Russia.
ReasonLabs also reported the discovery of more than a thousand torrent files that infect computers with a malicious installer. Viral VPN extensions are installed automatically and do not require any permissions from the user.
