The study was based on data on the number of social media users under 18 in each US state, as well as research results from Insider Intelligence and Qustodio, and data from parental control apps. Based on the data, a graph was created showing the amount of time children spent on each site daily, and a simulation model was created to estimate the social networks’ revenue from advertising to minors in the United States.
As a result, it turns out that social networks collectively earn about $11 billion from children and teenagers, but therefore have an impact on the psyche of minors. Analysts concluded that strict state regulation of the advertising sphere of social networks is necessary, especially in relation to minors.
