Climate change casts a long shadow on this anniversary. Rising sea levels threaten North Carolina’s last wild red wolves, and warming waters are disrupting the northern right whale’s food supply, pushing it closer to extinction.

“One in five plant and animal species in the country is at risk of extinction,” warns Susan Holmes, president of the Endangered Species Coalition. Habitat loss and climate change are the main culprits and he is calling for “action faster than ever”. Protect these defenseless creatures.

The ESA is undoubtedly a powerful tool for conservation, but the urgent call for more funding and stronger protection is loud enough across the country.
