You definitely need a Nintendo Switch in 2024. I’ll tell you why

Nintendo Switch is a true phenomenon in the world of portable gaming consoles. This device went on sale in distant (already) In 2017 and to this day, it confidently holds the title of the best-selling gaming system in the world.

If for some reason you still haven’t held an “owl” in your hands, then you are making a big mistake. In this material, I will try to reach those who have not yet decided to get a Nintendo Switch and find out why you should start the new year by purchasing this particular console.

The main feature of the Nintendo Switch is its versatility

In the previous article, I already mentioned that Nintendo is, first and foremost, games, but the experience of interacting with the phone on which these games take place is no less important. The Nintendo Switch is a cutting-edge device in this regard, combining a hybrid portable and desktop gaming console.

And this is very cool! I bought Switch in 2020, but for me its magic still works. “Switch” is designed for continuous gameplay, where the opening level of Super Mario Odyssey continues on the TV and continues on the bus or on the street.

The second feature of the Switch is its controls. Even if the buttons on the joycons are small, the movement of the sticks leaves much to be desired, but at the same time, you can disconnect both controllers from the console and use them for games together, placing the screen in front of you.

Believe it or not, I still occasionally take my Switch to the bar and my friends and I play Mario Kart or Super Smash Bros Ultimate.

But the main thing about the Nintendo Switch is not the form factor, not the gyroscopes and vibration in the joycons. The main thing is a library of games that can support any abundance of very different countries, but always exciting titles.

And this is the main reason why you need this handheld gaming console in 2024.

What to play on Nintendo Switch?

There is a great misconception: Nintendo is this is a console with children’s games about Mario and anime for strange people. No, the Switch isn’t just about Mario and Zelda, let alone that.

The library of games has something for everyone. Do you like something cruel and brutal? Please, from Doom and Wolfenstein (in their modern variations) to all parts of Resident Evil. And there are plenty of exclusive “adult” projects from Nintendo itself: Astral Chain, Bayonetta and Fire Emblem are examples of this.

The Nintendo Switch library has perhaps the most diverse selection of genres to date. From hours-long adventures in an open world with online shooters and fighting games. From large Western AAA projects to small indie games.

Personally, I recommend focusing on console exclusive games first. Fortunately, there are really a lot of them, and most of them are incredibly exciting.

For retro lovers there is also freedom here. From remasters of games from the PS3 and Xbox 360 generations to the Nintendo Switch Online system.

This is a subscription system that allows you to play a set of games with NES/SNES/GB/GBA/SEGA/N64 consoles.

Games with enhanced interaction experience stand out. The joycons have a whole range of interesting features built into them. They are used in some modern games, for example.

By the way, for one specific person it is called Ring Fit Adventure; the joycons need to be inserted into a special controller, which is sold complete with the game.

The process cannot be described in complex words; you need to try it yourself. When done properly, these games work great for small, challenging exercises to keep you toned.

True, it is already difficult to find Ring Fit Adventure in 2024, but there are sane analogues on AliExpress.

But what I don’t recommend spending time and money on is Nintendo Labo. Yes, this is the same cardboard from memes. I haven’t tried it myself, but according to a couple of friends, it’s a fun thing, but only once.

Which console to buy and how to buy games in Russia

Everything is simple here. There are three versions of the Nintendo Switch.

✔️ Basic Nintendo Switch. Exists in two revisions. They differ, first of all, in iron. The second revision has a different processor, which is no different in power, but has improved optimization for power consumption, so the second revision lasts longer on one battery charge.

Second, reconsidering the capabilities aspects crack. I won’t go into too much detail, I’ll just clarify that flashing the second revision is much more difficult. Visually, the consoles are indistinguishable, and at the moment only the second revision is on store shelves; the first is extremely difficult to find.

✔️ Nintendo Switch Lite. This is the only portable version that cannot be connected to a TV. Also, its joycon screens are not removable, there is no vibration and it is reduced.

It is based on a chip of the second revision, because it is difficult to flash it. It is recommended to take only on a large platform and, if necessary, a strict portable console.

✔️ Nintendo Switch OLED. considered a premium consolidation monarchy. The difference comes from the name – instead of IPS, there is a rich and memorable OLED screen with a larger diagonal compared to the visibility level (7 inches versus 6.2 at a distance). The Nintendo Switch also has a different OLED dock.

It has a slightly updated design and a LAN port for connecting wired Internet. The version only has Wi-Fi.

And one more main difference: in all variants except OLED, the internal memory is only 32 gigabytes. In premium capacity it is increased to 64. This will still not be enough, because the average weight of large games is 15-30 gigabytes, and it is better to immediately take a MicroSD card with at least 128 GB and a class of at least 10 along with the console.

If you are ready to use a licensed console, choose OLED – this is the best option. Despite the hidden access to the Russian online store, Nintendo does not restrict changing the region to another; top-up cards are freely transferred through intermediaries.

Game cartridges are also imported into stores as a serious import. Most of them, including new games, have been officially translated into Russian. There are also no problems when purchasing a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, which is also needed for online games.

Well, as mentioned above, the console is being flashed. Some consoles of the first revision are easy to sew at the software level. Finding them is already quite difficult. Everything further requires a very careful approach and the purchase of special equipment. You can find a lot of information on the intricacies of using the firmware on the Internet – there is a very strong Russian-speaking community in the pirate scene.

Nintendo Switch is sure to return in 2024

The Nintendo Switch has been around for 7 years this year. All the best games are out now and relatively accessible everywhere, at any level of use. The console is perfect as a base to join the world of exclusive Nintendo games.

Moreover, even if you have never owned a portable gaming console, the switch will be the right choice. Because the games do not require time to get used to the controls, everything is very clear and understandable.
