This raised additional questions: Has the LG washing machine been hacked, compromised or otherwise tampered with over the Internet, or is this normal data consumption for a modern smart device?

Social media users were eager to help the investigation by understanding why an LG washing machine could be so “data hungry”.

The first screenshot showed that on the selected day the device uploaded 3.57 GB and downloaded about 100 MB with almost constant data traffic.

An LG washing machine owner saw the funny side of his situation and joked that the device could use Wi-Fi for “DLC”. As it turned out, it wasn’t that far from the truth: the machine actually loaded presets for various types of clothing. However, most of the transmitted data was unnecessary.
