Starting in February, VKontakte will change its approach to content moderation for communities: a flexible strike system will operate (copyright infringement warning, “Strike” – editor’s note), the social network said in a statement.

VKontakte will introduce a strike system for communities

Administrators will see the reason for removing controversial content and will have the opportunity to take steps to avoid restrictions in the future.

This approach, as VKontakte hopes, will avoid harsh measures, such as outright blocking, being applied to communities that receive a one-time warning. At the same time, it does not cancel instant blocks for serious violations and publication of dangerous content.

The system will include six levels and provide a flexible list of measures depending on the number of strikes. Thus, for the first violations, restrictions will be imposed for several hours, for subsequent violations the period and number of restrictions will increase.

What other measures can be applied: ban on posting materials, exclusion from searches and recommendations, disabling monetization, blocking the community for a certain period.

A new section will appear where you can view strikes in the community dashboard. They will be reset one year from the date of receipt. The strike assignment can be appealed by contacting support.

The strike system consists of warnings and restrictions of various levels: from publication limits to blocks for different periods, explains the social network. The community receives a strike if it violates the platform rules.
