Once operational, SLIM used its multispectral spectral camera to capture images of rock formations, including the previously imaged “toy poodle.” The mission will continue to study the lunar surface as planned. SLIM will conduct scientific research alongside the baseball-sized LEV-2. The latter will transmit data via the LEV-1 probe equipped with two cameras, allowing the mission to progress despite initial difficulties.
Encountering electricity production problems after landing, JAXA launched two probes to the lunar surface. Lunar Rover 2 (LEV-2) captured an image of SLIM showing its inverted position with its panels facing away from the Sun due to main engine failure.
