Today we learned that OpenAI has released a version of its most famous ChatGPT app, the OpenAI GPT-4 Turbo model, for the Apple Vision Pro AI-powered augmented reality headset introduced last month.
Users, as in the normal version, will be able to ask questions, receive answers and advice, find out news, create images and text, but now in virtuality, writes VentureBeat. For example, now to communicate through chat it will be possible not only to dictate text, but also to point to some objects, requesting their characteristics.
The developers even say that it will soon be possible to submit a complex request by looking at disparate real-world objects. For example, to prepare a dish, simply place the available ingredients on the table and record them with the Vision Pro camera, and ChatGPT will compare what it sees and provide an appropriate recipe.
The ChatGPT app released today is one of the first built specifically for visionOS, and more than 600 similar specific releases are expected in the near future alone.
According to Apple, the list of apps for Vision Pro will soon include the Optic ID biometric iris authentication system, the realistic Spatial Audio sound generator, the VisionKit platform for creating your own apps, etc.
The ChatGPT app from the App Store on visionOS is available to users for free with an optional subscription to ChatGPT Plus, which provides access to GPT-4 features and faster response times.
But not all developers and major content providers are rushing to create versions of their applications for visionOS. For example, Bloomberg writes that YouTube and Spotify will not launch specialized releases for Apple’s augmented reality headsets. They announced this decision after a similar statement from Netflix.
A Netflix CEO said the product’s audience is so small right now that it’s not worth the effort. Creating an additional version has no economic interest for the company, nor for some who followed his example.
