The Khakassia Federal Antimonopoly Service Office opened a case against the Yobidoyobi sushi chain for promoting rolls called “Blood on the Asphalt,” writes vc.ru.
According to the publication, the advertisement for the roll set contains the following text:
“Do not be an idiot. Now you’re a kid because you have something to watch the next episode of your favorite TV series with. <...> you can enjoy it [сетом] alone or share fairly with the same equal guys like you.”
This text refers to the Russian police series “The Boy’s Word. Blood on the Asphalt”, which tells the life of teenage gangs at the end of the Soviet period (late 80s).
The series gained great popularity and critics called it a phenomenon of national culture. Some slang words of the characters began to actively spread on the Internet.
FAS Claims
The regional department of the FAS considered that these links and texts violated several points of the law on advertising.
- In particular, advertisements must not contain “crude words, obscene and offensive images, comparisons and expressions, including those related to the gender, race, nationality, profession, social category, age, language of a person or citizen.”
- Another point does not allow the formation of a negative attitude towards people who do not use the advertised products. It is prohibited to condemn such people. The service’s expert council surveyed 16 students at a local educational institution and the majority (10 people) rated the advertising as unethical.
OFAS Khakass will consider this case on February 28. If the company is found to be at fault, it faces a fine of up to 500 thousand rubles.
In early January, the Supreme Court of Russia confirmed the decision of the Arbitration Court of the Krasnoyarsk Territory on the need to change the name “Yobidoyobi”.
Although the Supreme Court’s decision cannot be appealed, the company said it would not change its name.
