Some research suggests that drinking has become less routine and expected for young people, and that giving up alcohol has become more socially acceptable. As research shows, young people now have a more negative attitude towards drinking and a more positive and tolerant attitude towards giving up alcohol. Researchers say this is due to the fact that the transition to adulthood takes longer, as well as young people’s concerns about the future and intense feelings of pressure to be successful in life.

The majority of young people surveyed, with the exception of a small number of college students, did not think peer pressure was a significant factor in their decision about whether to drink or not. Moreover, these students were angry that the social life at the university was alcohol-oriented.

But it’s important to note that the decline in youth drinking is not the same as the growing “temperance movement.” This decision is very different from a teenager’s decision to never start drinking.
