Near the end of this year, US users will be able to download a software update that will unlock the sleep apnea monitoring features of their Galaxy Watch. This feature will allow them to track their sleep and identify symptoms of this common and potentially serious sleep disorder.
In South Korea, the company received a similar authorization last fall, and users there already have early access to the update.
Galaxy Watch uses blood oxygen level monitoring during sleep to detect possible fluctuations, a common symptom of sleep apnea. Users simply wear the watch to bed and complete two sleep tracking sessions lasting at least four hours each over a 10-day period. The app provides information about the potential risk of sleep apnea based on the data obtained.
