Bollegraaf, the world’s leading waste treatment plant manufacturer, has joined forces with Greyparrot, an artificial intelligence startup specializing in waste identification, in an important step towards protecting the environment. Their goal? Equip thousands of factories around the world with AI-powered systems that can analyze and sort every item on the conveyor belt, significantly reducing contamination and increasing recycling efficiency.
“Sorted” recyclables, especially plastic, often contain non-recyclable materials, rendering them unusable. Currently, up to 30% of potentially recyclable materials end up in landfills, according to Greyparrot co-founder Ambarish Mitra. This inefficiency not only wastes resources but also contributes to the release of greenhouse gases and pollution of our planet.
Greyparrot’s AI spell was activated. The system, consisting of high-tech cameras and a computer, analyzes waste at lightning speed, recognizing more than 70 categories, from bottle caps to books and aluminum cans. This data can be used in two ways:
-
Smarter sorting robots
-
Quality control and analytics
