At the same time, in 2021 the number of registrations amounted to only 3 million, that is, almost 57 times less than in 2023.

Globally, 4,324 million personal data records from organizations were leaked last year, six times more than in 2022.

At the same time, the number of breaches of confidential data from financial companies in 2023 worldwide increased by 79.5% and reached a record of 1,049 episodes. The increase in their number in Russia was 12.3% compared to 2022.

Both in Russia and in the world, the majority of information leaked from financial organizations in 2023 corresponds to personal data: 87.5% and 67.7%, respectively.

Among the main reasons for the increase in the number of breaches in the industry, InfoWatch analysts cite the rapid pace of digitalization of the financial sector, as well as the discovery of new vulnerabilities that lead to an increase in the number of company hacks and an increase in the volume of compromised information.

InfoWatch analyzed data on information security incidents that occurred over the past 3 years at banks, insurance companies, exchanges, payment services and other industry organizations.
