The European Commission plans to investigate Apple’s actions to disable web applications in iOS 17.4 for EU countries.
Regulators last week sent questions to developers about this precedent. The European Commission confirmed to the Financial Times that it is looking into the issue:
We do check everyone’s compliance including Apple. This quarter, we’re looking at the issue of Progressive Web Apps in particular, and we can ensure that requests from Apple and app developers can provide useful information for our assessments.

Apple said it disabled web apps to comply with EU laws. Third-party browsers running web apps in Europe could negotiate security and user privacy risks, Cupertino said. The fixes are only available to a small number of users.
