The executive stated that the chipset will receive a custom Orion CPU and an updated version of the neutron processor (NPU). This chip combination is “killer,” according to McGuire.
McGuire did not reveal details, but rumor has it that Taiwan’s TSMC will produce the new CPU for Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, and it will be a chip made using 3nm process technology.
There’s also evidence that the Adreno 830 GPU in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 scores 10% higher than Apple’s M2 chip in 3DMark’s Wildlife extreme stress test. This is important to consider, as the M2 is designed for larger, more powerful devices like Macs.
