The ekranoplan, created in the USSR back in the 60s, can get a second life in the West. The Singaporean company ST Engineering presented its version of the flying machine – Airfish-8. The first machines should be put into operation next year.

The Airfish-8 has large, downward-sloping delta wings, a T-tail, and two 500-horsepower V-8 gasoline engines. It is flown by a crew of two pilots and is designed to carry up to eight passengers or one ton of cargo.

Airfish-8 moors broadside to the pier and takes off from the surface of the water, like a regular seaplane. Having accelerated to take-off speed, it “fixes” at a height of 0.6 to 7 m, after which the generated lifting force ensures its further flight at a speed of about 170 km/h, which is slightly slower than a seaplane, but faster than many high-speed ships.

To commercialize Airfish-8, ST Engineering has created a joint venture with Peluca – ST Engineering AirX. The first 10 vehicles have already been ordered by Eurasia Mobility Solutions. The start of deliveries is 2025.
