The first stores of South Korean fashion retailer 8 Seconds (owned by Samsung) are preparing to open in Russia. The brand is considered analogous to the Japanese chain Uniqlo, which left the local market after the start of the SVO in 2022.

Russian distributor LR Retail (owned by LD Retail and Anna Safronova), which has already registered several domains under the brand, can be a partner. The company, according to Kommersant sources, is related to the owners of the large Moscow shopping centers Aviapark and Oceania, among whom are the children of billionaire Arkady Rotenberg. The businessman’s representative denied his connection between LR Group and LR Retail.
Last spring, at the Retail Tech forum, the founder of CRE + Retail Group, Natalia Kermedchieva, stated that Samsung intends to bring two of its fashion brands to the Russian market, including 8 seconds, and that the first stores should appear before 2025.
Experts emphasize that Russians are quite loyal to South Korean brands, but their promotion in Russia will still require significant investments.
- Previously, 54% of Russians said they would like to see new “strong” national brands emerge instead of the return of international ones. Among those who want new Russian brands to appear, 55% are men and 54% are women. Most of them are 45 years old or older. The smallest number of people expecting “strong” Russian brands is among Russian residents aged 18-24 (36%).
