1Password password manager now supports password keys on Android. The new feature was announced this Tuesday (5) in a post on the company’s official blog.
Passkeys (or “access keys” in Portuguese) are more modern methods of authentication than traditional passwords. All passwords It is stronger than a secret array, is resistant to phishing attacks, and cannot be stolen in data breaches.
This is because passkeys use more effective authentication mechanisms such as biometrics, facial recognition, or device PIN.
According to 1Password, the app’s own password solution is more efficient than alternative managers like Google’s, thanks to its multi-ecosystem support.
“Google Password Manager is designed to work in just three places: Android, Chrome, and ChromeOS. Meanwhile, 1Password has carefully designed apps for all platforms and supports all major web browsers,” the company explained.
Testing started in December
1Password has launched support for password keys in the extension for Windows and iOS browsers. Testing of the tool started on Android in December 2023.
The feature comes as an update to the 1Password app, which is compatible with all phones running Android 14 (or newer). If the new feature has not yet appeared on your mobile phone, it is worth checking if there are any pending updates in the Play Store.
