Twitch CEO Dan Clancy revealed the platform’s 2024 plans in an open letter published this Wednesday (6). The platform promised a major overhaul of the mobile app, the addition of stories, more partnerships with sponsors, and more features.
“The priority this year is to create ways to help you grow and stay connected to your communities,” the CEO emphasized.
New Twitch app
The first of the new major features is a redesign of the Twitch mobile app. “We are redesigning the app for mobile devices (it will be the first major update since 2019) to provide a more modern and immersive experience,” the executive said.
In this change, the discovery feed will become the homepage of the app for everyone. This new model is in the trial phase and is a scrollable feed of lives or clips with filters to find the latest content.
To make content moderation easier, the iOS app will get some of the tools currently only available on desktop.
Additionally, audience financial incentives (subscriptions, gifts, and Bits) are also being rethought to “deliver a better experience on mobile.” The “Hype Train” feature has also been revised.
Stories on Twitch
Twitch will also support temporary Instagram Stories-style broadcasts. The tool allows you to post quick updates to the community in a short, concise and more spontaneous way after the live broadcast.
To that end, the platform promises to add the ability to create and upload short-format stories and the “ability to post news anytime.” The service must support features like pinch gestures to zoom in on photos and crop clips to portrait format.
Increase publisher earnings
In the text, Twitch talked about the expansion of the Plus program and improved the availability of the Advertising Incentive Program. The company promises to expand its entire publisher compensation system in 2024.
In this direction, the platform will focus on increasing the number of partner companies and increasing the creators’ chances of gaining sponsors.
Working against harassment
Finally, the platform promises to launch tools that will improve harassment detection on the service, including changes that can block acts of harassment before they appear in chat.
