Apple has reversed its decision to block Epic Games’ account on the iOS App Store in Europe after EU regulators announced a new antitrust investigation in response to such behavior by the tech giant.

Apple will once again make Epic Games available on the iOS App Store in Europe

The company Epic Games, producer of Fortnite, has been fighting a tenacious battle in recent years with monopolists Google and Apple to avoid the ban on placing and selling applications in their stores, Business Insider recalls.

Both Google and Apple removed Fortnite from their online stores in 2020 after Epic created a way to purchase in-game currency that bypassed the sales systems built into the tech giants’ platforms.

After the Digital Markets Law officially came into force in the European Union, which aims to limit the monopoly of large corporations, Epic Games was active again. A post appeared on the game developer’s blog that Apple removed the “Epic Games Sweden AB” account, which was planned to host the Epic Games Store on iOS.

Just 24 hours later, Apple told CNN it had restored the account. And indeed: Epic confirmed on its blog that Fortnite will soon be available again on iOS after this decision.

“This indicates that the European Commission will now act quickly to enforce the Digital Markets Act and hold gatekeepers to account,” Epic said.

Previously, these decisions could “hang” for months and years. Epic representatives remember very well that back in 2021 they lost a lawsuit against Apple.
