Previous research has shown that it is possible to use artificial intelligence to create molecules with desired odors, but such applications are not enough to help develop truly beneficial aromas, according to the researchers.

In a new study, scientists tried to create an artificial intelligence application that could take into account all the factors that affect the perception of a scent, based on two existing perfumes.

They developed a basic AI application trained on a database of known molecules with defined aromatic notes. They then selected a subset of the molecules created that were expected to evaporate similarly to the original perfume. After testing, they found that the recipes for the molecules created matched the expected aromas.

Scientists plan to continue working with their applications to create the desired scent on demand, which could give computers and other devices the ability to reproduce scents in a manner similar to creating images.
