After months of confirming work on this, Spotify began adding music videos to your music streaming platform. From now on, some users in select countries will be able to choose between listening to the song via audio or instead watching its video clip using a button that appears on the playback screen itself.
We are currently confirming that video clips can be viewed via Spotify. only available in select markets and, unfortunately, Spain is not one of them. The company provided details in an email sent to: TechCrunch which selected countries to launch beta testing based on “a number of criteria including market size and availability of local content support.” These are Brazil, Colombia, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Kenya, the Netherlands, Poland, the Philippines, Sweden and the UK.
To watch the music video on Spotify, yeah you need a premium subscription active. That is, users with a free plan must choose other platforms, such as YouTube.
Spotify’s video clip integration is also somewhat different from what Apple Music or YouTube offers. Instead of searching for videos on the platform or artist page, the app will show a special button called “switch to video” on the playback screen, which will pause the song and open the video. The clip will also display a button to activate full-screen mode, and if the user taps the screen, they can access a “switch to audio” button that closes playback and returns to the audio track.
Once the video clip ends, Spotify will play the next song in the queue in audio format. On the other hand, if the user is watching a video and closes the app, it will stop playing.
Video clips are also available on the web version of Spotify.
Music videos too They are available on the web version of Spotify., where they appear in the side tab. The company also confirmed that users will be able to watch video clips. in the respective Spotify TV apps.
As Spotify clarifies, video clips are uploaded locally to the platform and They don’t have any advertising. However, at the moment the number of song videos is somewhat limited. The company says there are currently thousands of music videos and that it aims to “prioritize a wide range of genres and artists” in relevant markets where the feature is available.
While this new feature is very good news for Spotify users, it is by no means an innovative feature. In fact, other music streaming platforms such as Apple Music, they’ve been including video clips in the app for a while now. However, Spotify has managed to implement music videos in a much more intuitive way.
