As part of a project to create a global knowledge base on batteries, the author of the article on Habré conducted a series of experiments to find out the impact of the technology on lithium-ion batteries.

Results:

  • Fast charging does not result in multiple reductions in battery life.
  • If the operating modes do not go beyond the permissible limits, the degradation rate of the battery does not exceed the nominal values.
  • The batteries “give back” the promised 300 charge-discharge cycles even under harsh operating conditions.

Comparison of fast and standard charging:

  • Sanyo NSX: 11.4% capacity loss was observed in standard charging (5A) and 8.5% capacity loss in fast charging (20A)
  • LG 18650HG2: standard charging (4A) brought the capacity loss to 15.4%, while fast charging (20A) only increased it to 10%.
