Associate Professor of Neurology at Northwestern University’s Center for Circadian and Sleep Medicine. A team led by Minji Kim. Feinberg studied the effect of light on the nighttime sleep of 550 people in Chicago. The ages of the participants ranged from 63 to 84. The work itself took a week.

It turned out that those who turn on a nightlight in the room or leave their tablet, smartphone, and television on before going to bed are more likely to develop high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes. Additionally, the results of the experiment showed that less than half of the participants slept in complete darkness for five hours a night.

At the same time, experts state that they still do not know how the light is during sleep at night and that these three diseases are linked. Maybe it’s obesity, diabetes or high blood pressure that makes people sleep in the light, or maybe the opposite is true: that is, the use of light leads to the development of diseases.
